3D data platform for digital creators
Our spin-off is in currently carrying out a task entitled: "Development of a prototype of a national platform of 3D data for creative industry," financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the program of Center for the Development of Creative Industries: Development of Creative Sectors.
The aim of the project is to develop an online platform for converting and sharing 3D data for the needs of various creative industries, with particular emphasis on developers using game engines. Thanks to the platform, the barrier for creative developers associated with the need to prepare 3D data published by government sector institutions will be removed. For example, despite the widespread availability of spatial data for the entire country at geoportal.gov.pl, it is relatively rarely used by the creative industry due to its size and records in data formats that are not popular in the creative industry. Another barrier is the size of the data - high-quality 3D models of cities created on behalf of local governments are often available in popular formats (OBJ), however, their size (reaching up to a dozen/tens of GB) makes it very difficult for creative developers to use them due to the fact that they have to incur costs in preparing (converting) this data for further use in, for example, game engines. Same problem is with 3D data created by cultural institutions, which are developed as highly detailed documentation, and their use by developers in particular industries is not possible until the data is simplified. The platform will use data conversion algorithms implemented in Big Data and CENAGIS environment, prototype versions of which will be created as part of the ongoing task. The proposed solution addresses the needs of creative sector users who do not have the experience, software and hardware to convert data from geospatial data resources. This type of solution automates the procedure giving the opportunity to save time and resources. It will translate into the speed of creation of target models / mock-ups / visualizations and may influence the popularization of the very 3D visualization technology used today by the creative industry (architecture, film, computer games, VR/AR) in society.
